Abi Clarke
In the past
i.e. in the beginning of 2020, comedians may have hoped to spend many years
performing across the UK in stand-up comedy, before getting invited to appear
on a television panel show and selling tickets to an arena tour. Right now,
it's not so easy. Comedy is one of the art forms that can continue to be
performed the presence of a live audience, however, we'll probably not be
seeing arena tours anytime in the near future. One Bristol comedian, however,
has found a huge worldwide audience during lockdown through social media. Abi
Clarke didn't set out to become an internet popular. Abi Clarke, 24, who lives
in Henbury with her parents, made her first online videos to "build an
audience of like-minded people who would enjoy my stand-up comedy."
"I was performing a lot in Devon to males aged 50 and older who were not
as enthusiastic about my Love Island Sims and Twilight references, so I decided
to look online for younger women who could enjoy my stand-up comedy." Abi,
who lives in Henbury with her parents, continues to post her videos on
Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok. She finds inspiration from many sources,
including conversations with strangers, chat room, and writes down her thoughts
on her phone.
